Nicks Birthday

Hello!

Before I get into Nicks birthday shenanigans I'll just quickly update you on the Moomba Festival we went to last weekend. It is the largest free festival in Australia and went on over the Labour day weekend.

On the first night we met up with Nicks best friend from back in the UK and his fiancée and house mate. We had a look around the rides and, after getting over the shock of how expensive they were, we decided to splash out on the highest, scariest on we could find. IT.WAS.TERRIFYING! We went on at night, but below is how it looks in the harsh light of day!

I have never been so scared on a ride, I found myself thinking about safety checks!! There was a lot of screaming going on, was pretty fun though on reflection! But I think that may be my final carnival ride.

The next day we went down to watch the water sports on the Yarra, but it was just so hot! We probably only stayed for about and hour and watched some cool tricks and Nick enjoyed watching the races, but really a big crown and 35+ degrees is not the best place to be so we headed home.

That night me and Meg went out on Brunswick Street and found ourselves on a rooftop bar. I don't have any photos, but from what we have pieced together, Brunswick street is pretty fun!

On the Sunday we headed to the festival to watch the Birdman rally which is basically a bit like the Red Bull flight competition. Competitors made their own flying machine and jumped in the river all in the aid of charity! It was very funny to watch and I can imagine jumping in to the Yarra was quite a welcome relief on such a hot day!

the festival ended with a parade on St Kilda road, very impressive, a lot better than the Australia day parade!

Now on to Wednesday the 13th March, Nicks 24th birthday, unfortunately he had to work, but I got up super early to make him a Canadian breakfast and give him his present A HELICOPTER RIDE which he was very very happy with!

When he finished work at 3 we had a few drinks in our courtyard with friends and played Monopoly deal, Nick kept getting it's my birthday cards, it was funny... you probably had to be ther AND understand the rules of Monopoly deal!

That night we went for a meal at the World Bar on South bank, we had reserved a table and we had the most amazing view of the city and the river.

I seem to remember a lovely waitress came to appologise for the wait a few times but I dont think any of us noticed, and when the food did come it was yummy! It's a pretty quirky/ posh place, reasonably priced and the food comes out on wooden slates, which I love! I had a BBQ pizza and Nick had a Gourmet Burger, both were delicious and highly recommended. We had quite a few drinks and Nick even got himself a free cocktail!

After that we headed to the Asian Beer Garden in Melbourne Central which is a cool little bar, drinks were quite cheap and there is a balcony overlooking the city so it was a great end to the night!

On the Saturday after Nicks birthday we went on the HELICOPTER!! It was so much fun, we had to get up quite early to make our way down to Geelong which is about an hour train journey from Melbourne. When there, we had to get a bus to the airport, however we had missed the bus! Which turned out to be very lucky as we had to get a cap and arrived at the airport about and hour early. We flew straight away meaning I didn't have time to freak out and we just missed the rain! I am a bit of a nervous flyer but the pilot was lovely and made me feel very safe, it was such an amazing experience!

the 20 minute flight took us right along the Torquay coastline, we saw surfers competing at Bells Beach, we could see all the way along the coast line and all the way out to the Town Of Geelong and Torquay.

We had such an amazing time and wish it had lasted longer! It is a bit of a shame that the sun wasn't shinning but we still saw some epic views!

When we had landed we hitched back into Geelong and had some yummy lunch by the beach, we chilled out for a while but the weather had taken a turn for the worse so we headed back home and started planning our trip through the rest of Asia!

I can't believe how fast this has all gone, we only have two more rent payments on our apartment before we are on the road again! I have a job now, its only a month temp assignment but it is super close to our home and hopefully I will find another job pretty quick when that finish's up. Nick's job ends in April so he will also be on the job hunt again soon!
