Settling down in Melbourne

Hello!

This is the final post of the five post updates, and here we are in Melbourne! We are here until the 3rd of June 2013, then travelling the East Coast of Oz before we fly to Asia for 9 weeks.

Syndey

Hello,

Our flight over from New Zealand was pretty uneventful, we were both quite sad to leave, it didn't feel like we had been there for 8 month! We were super excited about getting to Australia though and starting the second half of our travels.

Christchurch

Hello.

Due to lack of funds, me and Nick headed to Christchurch hoping to find a two week temping job. When we first got to there we were still in the camping spirit and found a nice camp site. It was OK, quite far out of town though, so we quickly found a hostel instead.

We went out looking for jobs on our first day and we found one. We were laborers. We put up shelves, painted machinery, hung out with the work men. We were laborers in a toilet factory. this was not enjoyable for me! And Nick had to do all the work as I was not strong enough to build shelves and take down racking! It was a bit ridiculous and we only lasted a week (probably the longest week of my life!). Over now though and we did need to money.

Christchurch is beautiful, I would have loved to have seen the city before the devastating earthquakes in 2010 and 2011, from what is left you can see how beautiful it once was. It is coming back together though, and various artists have made the most out of a bad situation. For example they have 'gap fillers' which are unique things all over the city, such as a bar made out of broken down trams, a shopping mall made out of shipping containers and a fridge on the side of the road which is a book swap shop.

Into The Wilderness

Hello!

Let me tell you about our three week 'Into The Wilderness' camping trip with Jake and Lou. We did a road trip of the rest of the South Island in our Little Nissan March (Jo) and slept in a tent at some of the most beautiful places in the whole of New Zealand.

The End of Queenstown!

Hello!

By the end of the season, mother nature had successfully terrified us into thinking the mountains would close a month early, but just when we thought it was all over, she finally graced us with a powder day! Luckily I had this day off, so I threw on my gear and headed up on the first bus.

The Mid Season Review

Hello!!

So by this time I had started to get quite a lot better at snowboarding thanks to Nicks incredible patients and free private lessons (NZSki perks) . I have made it down most of the blue runs on the mountains and I am pretty confident linking my turns so everything is going well!!

UPDATE!

Hello!!

How are you all? As you have probably noticed I have neglected this blog for about 6 months, which I kind of regret! So I have re-named and re-branded, and will be updating it with 6 posts (Mid Season Review, End of the Ski Season, Camping, Christchurch, Sydney, Christmas and New Years) to bring you up to speed with what we are doing right now.
