Syndey

Hello,

Our flight over from New Zealand was pretty uneventful, we were both quite sad to leave, it didn't feel like we had been there for 8 month! We were super excited about getting to Australia though and starting the second half of our travels.

We arrived in Sydney early morning on the 21st of November and checked into our hostel, we were staying in a dorm with 2 other people, not what we are use to but wasn't too bad at all. On our first day we went for breakfast at the cute little cafe across from our hostel and then we went on a mission to see the sites!

We walked through the Botanic gardens, and we were amazed at the amount of runners and cyclists we walked past. We rounded a corner, and quite unexpectedly saw the Sydney Opera House and Harbor Bridge! It was amazing! I may have been a bit overly excited and we joined the rest of the tourists in taking lots of photos!! (we took more photos in Sydney in two days than we did in Christchurch in two weeks!).

We walked all the way up to the Opera house so we could touch it! It didn't look like I thought it would which is odd, it isn't white, its more creamy yellowy colour and the sails are quite vertical, I thought they would bend over a lot more. Its an amazing building though and we couldn't believe we were there!

In the afternoon we got on a Ferry and went over to Manly, the weather was beautiful and the view of the harbor from the Ferry was amazing! There were a lot of sailing boats in the sea and they came up really close to our boat, It was funny! A lot of horn honking and waving.

Manly is beautiful, I think if we had decided to stay in Sydney that is where we would have lived. We took a walk over the beach and saw a lot of surfers! and then we took a little walk and found a point where you could see all the way up to Palm Beach

We had a pretty chilled afternoon there, and we got the Ferry back to the mainland just in time to see the sun set over the Sydney harbour. It was pretty epic! especially seeing it shine through the Harbour Bridge.

The next day we sorted out our Oz bank accounts and phone numbers and then took the same walk through the Botanic gardens to the opera house. We had our breakfast in the harbour and we could see people walking over the bridge, which is something we would like to do before we leave Oz. We then took a walk through The Rocks and Darling Harbour. We decided to go to the aquarium as I really wanted to see a platypus... we didn't see one though, however we did see the ugliest animal in the world, a Dugong.

After that we met up with two friends from NZSki, took a walk back to the Opera house and had a drink in the same restaurant we had had breakfast. Then we headed over to a modern art museum where we saw live jazz on the roof and some weird art, including a lady in a box just dancing to music videos trying to create the time in her life when she was unemployed, was quite odd and gave us all a fright!

We had such an amazing two days in Sydney, and we cannot wait to go back there when we travel up the East Coast in June, we want to hit Bondi Beach and go for a meal at one of the fancy restaurants!
